We have a 2006 LanceMax 1181 on a 1999 Chevy Silverado Crew DRW 4x4. We intend on pulling a 17 foot 2 horse trailer with it. So far we have upgraded to a class v hitch with a 48" extension, ordered happy jacks, ordered hookups for the cabover struts that came with the camper, and put on rear air shocks. The air shocks have made a huge difference with leveling the truck, but you can still see that there is room for improvement. My husband is not a big fan of the airbags, so I was thinking of the Timbrens. Any thoughts? I would also any suggestions or recommendations for towing the trailer. Finally, any idea of the gas mileage I can expect with carrying a camper that is 3000 lbs heavier (dry) than the previous camper? I used to get 6 - 8 mpg with my old camper when towing (I tow about 7,000 lbs)
Hello, We have a 06 1181 and love it. We have it on a dodge 3500 cumm. I get 11 to 12 on the interstate local roads of speeds at 55 I can get 18. The heavier camper will probably not change you mileage. Mine weights 6000+ so it is heavy. I have the air bags and I believe they are require for the weight unless you have really heavy springs. My truck is rated 12250 and without the bags is sets down. I also have torqe bar and bump stops for the overloads. The bump stops make the over loads come in contact quicker. I think you need the air bags if you add the hitch and trailer tongue weight. Hope this helps. Dave Mc
