My Lance 915 has developed a problem with one window gasket. The rubber gasket in one corner of the window has shrunk and is pulling away from the corner. I now have a half inch gap at the corner and about 2 inches along the edge. Do i need to have the gasket replaced, or can i just caulk it with black caulk. I haven't noticed any leak yet, but a leak at this point would be hard to detect unless it got into the cab. Any ideas please.

You should be aware that RTV is hazardous to work with, use latex or nitril gloves to keep it off your skin. If you have not worked with it before make sure the surface you apply it to is clean nd dry to start with. After you get a good bead on, then wet your gloves so the RTV won't stick to them and smooth it out with the tip of your gloved finger. It will cure overnight, or you can speed it up with a lamp.

I was able to buy small tubes of RTV caulk at an auto parts store. Wasted time trying to find it at Ace, Home Depot and Lowe's, since it is an auto/truck repair item rather than a home fix item.

RTV stands for Room Temerature Vulcanizing. One of the more popular brands is GE which is availible at your local Lowes or Home Depot. It comes in various colors like Clear, Black, White, etc. Just ask for Bath caulk, Kitchen caulk, window caulk, etc. Comes in squeezable tubes, Caulking gun sized tubes, and pressurized tube applicators.
Hope this helps.

To Joe Myers

Thanks for your reply. I am not familiar with the RTV product you suggest. Can you be more specific?

Myself, I think I would just fill in the gap with some RTV or something similar.

I have the same problem. I asked Lance and I was told that the gaskets will shrink and there is nothing to be done except replace the gasket. I was also told that I could caulk the area if it appeared as if it was leaking. So far no leaks have appeared.
