While I've been truck campering for a few decades, I normally try to boondock it, reserving the RV parks for the luxury of hookups every once in a while. So when I do stay at the 'resorts' I normally keep the camper on. A while ago I wanted to stay near the hospital where my mother was and found a reasonably priced RV park. When I arrived and after some chit chat about why I was there the manager said the fire department prohibited a camper being left on the premises unless it was on the truck. The manager kindly put my in the back of the property and said I'd be OK there.
Has anyone had any similar experiences? Are there general regulations that make removing the camper a problem? As I age a bit I'm sort of liking the idea of staying at RV parks and tooling around in the truck. I'll certainly start asking at check in about this. What's the general experience? |

I'm under the opinion that it's entirely up to the owners running the campground. I've been told I can't take it off. I've been told I can take it off. However, I've never been told to put it back on once I've taken it off. Unless I'm camping directly where I'm planning on spending my time, It comes off the truck.

Yes, we've been requested to leave the camper on the truck at RV parks, but it isn't a problem with us. Once we leave home, we never take the camper off the truck, not in 20+ years. If we go sight-seeing in the area, we always take the camper with us. We like to have our bathroom and kitchen with us. We've never had a problem parking our rig... might have to walk a little further, but that's not all bad either.
