I AM NEW TO THE FORUM. I OWN AND OPERATE WITH NO PROBLEMS AN OLDER 10'6" LANCE (MODEL 580). I AM PURCHASING A HEAVIER 1181. WHILE IT APPEARS THAT MY TRUCK WILL HANDLE THE WEIGHT, I AM CONCERNED WITH THE CENTER OF GRAVITY. IT APPEARS THAT THE 39" COG ADVERTISED ON THE 1181 WILL BE LOCATED ON MY TRUCK ABOUT 6"-7" BEHIND THE AXEL OF OF MY F-350 DIESEL,DRW,CREW CAB. I ALSO PULL A FOUR HORSE TRAILER THAT ADDS TO THE BASE CURB WEIGHT OR PAYLOAD. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THE TONGUE WEIGHT OF THIS TRAILER SHIFTS THE COG BACK YET FURTHER BEYOND THE AXEL. IS THERE ANYONE THAT HAS EXPERIENCED (OR DOES FORESEE) PROBLEMS? IF SO,DO YOU HAVE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS?

Your post was hard to read, because YOU'RE YELLING AT ME. All your assumptions are correct but it can be done. I carry my 1181 on the same truck. I also tow an 8000lb. enclosed car trailer with about 10-12% of it's weight on the tongue on occasion using a Torklift Superhitch with a 42" extension. When I do that, I keep all the tanks empty while traveling and remove anything that isn't considered essential from the storage area. It does fine but I have air bags and Timbrens on the rear of the truck to level it out.

Kent,

There has not been a problem with that COG on my F350. We try to load heavy stuff in the front of the camper but some cans, etc., do end up in the kitchen cabinets. Now I don't tow with any tongue weight, rather I flat tow a Jeep. Your horse trailer will put weight behind the axle but that diesel is gonna counterbalance quite a bit of weight and it's a looooong truck. Why not load 6 people in the truck and balance it that way? Big Grin (Just Kidding)

P.S. Please turn your caps lock off. It's taken as "SHOUTING" when you type that way.
