We took a few days off before New Years to drive to some out of the way places in Death Valley National Park.

We camped 3 nights along various 4x4 roads, hiked lots of beautiful canyons and strange places during our trip. We hiked up Johnson Canyon to Hungry Bill's Ranch, thru Golden Canyon, saw Artist's Palette, climbed Sand Dunes, and hiked up Mosaic Canyon.

We followed several of the trips in Backcountry Adventures, which I found to be a great book for taking you in out of the way places.

Our photos are online if anyone is interested, click here

Gary,

Thanks for your post. You took some great pictures. Someday I want to take the time and explore Death Valley like you did.

Wonderful pics Gary. We were there the first week of Jan, 2007 & took some of the same pics you did. We also enjoyed the canyon hikes. We visited Scotties Castle, the crater with the funny name, various other places & had a really good time. Death Valley was not at all what I expected, it was so much more. Our last stop after several days was at Dante's Point overlooking Death Valley. I was really mesmerized by the view.
Visiting these kind of places really makes me glad I have my Lance.
Thanks again for the pics & bringing back some good memories.
