I decided earlier in the year to do a road trip this month and just returned from a 2 week tour of parts of Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, South Dakota, and Utah. My girlfriend and I started emailing each state's tourism dept. back in May and left armed with lots of info, but no particular destination in mind. We visited Yellowstone, Custer State Park, Zion and a few less known points in between. We fished Swan Creek in Montana (no cutthroats, but my first Brookie!), and Portneuf River in Idaho (the little guys were biting, the big ones just swimming on by). We had decided on a general route, but had no destinations or timeline so it was a pretty relaxing couple of weeks. A couple of days we drove just a few miles and ran across something interesting and stopped and some days we just stayed where we were and didn't drive at all. We ended up in Sturgis during bike week which was kind of interesting in itself. I drove mostly secondary roads instead of the freeway when possible which worked out pretty well. I did run across some construction on SR 220 in Wyoming that caused a slight delay, but no hurries, no worries.
The Lance worked out perfectly on the trip. The generator came in handy a couple of times and I timed the hookup campsites with the dry campsites so we never ran low or high on clean or dirty water. I ran a little low on propane and the place I chose to refill just happened to have a "Wednesday special" of $1.05/gal (Ogden, UT). Luckily I was there on a Wednesday. The one failure I had was when a thunderstorm started in Jackson,WY, I attempted to crank down the bathroom vent quickly and broke the handle. Luckily its the same as the one over the bed so I was able to use that one for both until I got a (metal) replacement. Once I get the pictures developed I'll attempt to post some. If anyone is planning on being in these areas and would like particulars or more info, email me at shortk@ridgecrest.ca.us and I'll try and help. KenS 1996 Dodge 3500 4x4 1997 Lance 990EC |

Ken S,
We took a trip about 3 years ago to Ely, NV to ride the Nevada Norhtern Railroad. Upon arriving in Ely, we discovered the vent cover had disintergrated with the sun's UV rays. Fortunately no rain. We stopped at Camping World on the way back an purchased the unpowered MaxAir covers. Now we leave the vents open all the time rain or shine. A very good investment.
