Recently, on a trip in our Lance crossing South Dakota from the Black Hills and the Badlands National Park to visit Fort Sisseton State Park, SD, we stopped at a very nice city park with RV sites in Huron, SD. My wife remembered seeing this park about 10 years ago (I don't know where she keeps that stuff! Cool) when we were traveling through Huron in our 5th wheel trailer. The Huron Memorial Park Campground is located on the east side of town just south of US 14 on the James River. The golf course is across the street as is a school baseball stadium and other sports facilities. The RV park area has shaded back in sites as well as pull through sites out in the open with water, electric, and sewer hookups. It was late in the afternoon so we parked in the pull through sites. The fee for full hookups was a very reasonable $12.00.

For more information on Huron, SD log on their web site:

Nice Photo Bill... That looks like a southern california campground. We have some campgrounds here that are all concrete and nothing natural in sight. Hehe.

At the end of July, 2005, after I attended the Star Party in the Sandhills of Nebraska, I headed up to Huron. I have a small farm just east of there. I camped overnight in this park. The rate is now $17.00. The guy that comes around to collect the money out of the box knows the guy that farms my land. We had a nice chat. When I went to the pay phone on the bath house to make a call, I found it didn't work. My cell wouldn't work in Huron either,so I went across the road to the golf club house. The lady over there was very nice & let me use her phone. I saw a sign there that said if you started before 8 AM the fee was only $7.00 for a round of golf. I don't play golf but I do know that is a really good price. So if you are a golfer & are going to be in Huron, you might want to stop & play a round.

Hmmm! They raised the rates since 2003.
It's still a very nice city park.

We enjoy traveling through the rural areas of KS, NE, and North & South Dakota.

Yep, lots of friendly folks and many nice city and county parks with RV hookups.
