This is a great place to visit if you like fresh sea food. The size and number of fish caught are amazing. There is a campground that is old but comfortable and the staff is very friendly. The trick is the road in. Shelter Cove is 20 miles off Ca. 101 at Redway. Most of the way is a nice country road. Once you crest the peak you are looking at a drop from 2200 ft to sea level in 7 miles of swich backs, oh by the way, theres also a 7% grade most of the way.

The trip in is not for the faint of heart but fishing and views are absolutly amazing.

Steve,

Thanks for the information. Sounds like a neat place. We will keep that in mind. We hope to get to California in the next year or two.

Yep, we traveled portions of that road about 10 years ago in our truck only. We didn't fish, only sight-seeing. We were traveling in our Hitchhiker 5th wheel at the time and had parked it at the formerly Trailer Life owned RV resort/golf course, Benbow Valley RV Resort, near Garberville. I agree, this is a beautiful area of northern CA.
