The wife and I are starting to think about a trip to Yellowstone next June.
We will be driving our Truck with camper.

We would like to stay around West Yellowstone as a base camp and then drive each day to where ever we plan on.
I see a lot of good reviews for Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park.
Has anyone a review for The Rustic Wagon RV campground?

Thanks

Rob

Robd,

If you are going in June, you will find that the crowds pick up substantially after June 15. So, if you can swing it, you will be much better off (crowd wise) during the first two weeks in June than the last two weeks. Be prepared for some good days, but also some cold, wet and stormy weather in June.

I think I remember the Yellowstone Grizzly RV Park. Seems like it was very close to the McDonalds. I too have heard good things about it. We stayed some at the KOA, but it is much farther from the Park entrance. It was a good location for us because we were doing a lot of fishing on Henry's Lake

One thing we did was alternate nights in the park and outside the park. This is very convenient if you are doing day trips to the other side of the Park, like to Lamar Valley. It's a long way over there and it is a very long drive back to camp after dark. So we would leave the KOA in the morning, spend one or two nights at Slough Creek or Lewis Lake and then back to the KOA to charge our boat batteries, etc.

If you're looking for some good food in West Yellowstone one evening, try the Gusher. Great pizza, sandwiches, etc.

We were in Yellowstone NP in early June of this year. We stayed at Fishing Bridge RV Park on the east side of the park, which is much closer to the Lamar Valley. We like to view the wildlife in the Lamar Valley area and Fishing Bridge; even though expensive, is a convenient place to park.

I agree with BradW, the best times to visit the park are before June 15 and after September 1st. We've visited Yellowstone NP many times over the years including a winter visit. The park is much more enjoyable without the summer crowds.
