The middle of September we are going to be headed to Winfield, Ks to attend the Walnut Valley Festival for the first time. It is billed as a BlueGrass Festival with Country, Gospel, & other kinds of music thrown in. There are supposed to be over 800 camp sites available. There are serveral stages and also a lot of jamming going on in the campgrounds. If you want to take a look at it, their web site is www.wvfest.com
We already have our tickets & I hope it is as good as we think it will be. If anyone has attended, I would like to know your thoughts about the music & the campground. We returned from the Walnut Valley Festival on Sunday. It was a different kind of experience. We were told there were 15,000 campers. There are no specfic camper sites. There are poles with plugs on them & water hydrants scattered around. We arrived two days before the festival & access to hookups were already taken. Many people brought 100 ft electric cords & 100 ft of hose. Some were able to branch off others connections by using a male plug with 2 or more female outlets. A Y hose connector enabled some to tap into another campers hose connection for water. Not being prepared with that type of equipment we managed the 5 days without any hookups & it worked out just fine.
Campers were packed on the grounds like sardines, where ever you could find a place to park; very cozy. The music began at 9 a.m. & continued to midnight on the stages. Music in the campgrounds continued till 4 or 5 in the mornings most days. We had a good time but I am not sure we will go again. It is a bit too crowded & some of the the music a bit too political for my liking.
